Astros Video Of The Day: Bagwell Hits 3 Bombs In 1999 Game vs. White Sox

Since we're lacking for actual games, each day moving forward, until sports return, we will take a look back at a classic video from the Astros here on the blog. We start things today with the Hall of Famer, Jeff Bagwell. On the 9th of June in the 1999 season, he hit three tank jobs against the White Sox in Chicago, driving in six runs in the Astros 13-4 victory. It was his second of two three home run games against a Chicago team that season as he also hit three bombs and drove in exactly six runs in a win over the Cubs at Wrigley Field back in April of that 1999 season. In that 1999 season, Bagwell, would hit .304 at the plate with 42 homers and 126 runs batted in to lead the Astros to their third straight division title. He would make his fourth and final NL All-Star team of his career that season. Playing all 162 games in his age 31 season, Bagwell joined the 30-30 club for the second time in his career, swiping exactly 30 bags to go along with his 42 home runs. He would lead all major league players that year in runs scored with 143 (a number he would top the next season with 152), also leading all major league players when he drew a career high 142 walks on the season. Bagwell would finish second in the NL MVP vote that year behind Chipper Jones of the Braves, picking up his third and final Silver Slugger Award that season for his work at the plate. In total that '99 season, Bagwell would slash .304/.454/.591 at the plate for a career high 1.045 OPS on the season. His three homer game here against the White Sox was one of four multi-homer games that season.
