Seven Signs You Have “Decidophobia”

Do you stress yourself out trying to decide on what to eat for breakfast or big decisions in your life? Do they give you paralyzing anxiety? You could be suffering from something called “decidophobia.”

Decidophobia is actually a real phobia related to anxiety disorders. Aimee Daramus, PsyD explains, “decidophobia is the paralyzing fear of making a wrong decision. Most of us have a little anxiety about some decisions, but someone with decidophobia will feel intense, paralyzing fear about even everyday decisions.” Here are the symptoms of decidophia.

  • Panic and anxiety – Having to make a decision can induce you straight into an anxiety attack.
  • Procrastination – You put off making a big decision because you fear making the wrong one.
  • Undervalued instincts – You tend to gather a lot of information and ask for other people’s advice rather than paying attention to your needs and instincts.
  • Strained relationships – When you’re faced with a big decision you might push people away. They’re left trying to figure out how to please you when you don’t even know yourself.
  • External dependence – You’d rather have someone else decide things for you even if they have to do with your own life.
  • Exaggerated consequences – You’re a little dramatic about what could go wrong when it comes to small decisions.
