The Controversy Behind Kim Kardashian's Met Gala Diet

Kim Kardashian lost 16 pounds in just three weeks in order to fit into Marilyn Monroe's dress for the Met Gala. The iconic 4.8 million dollar dress is a piece of history and was not allowed to be altered in any way. When she didn't fit into the gown for her initial fitting, she was determined to get into the dress. Experts are saying that the measures she took to get into it were extreme.

Kim said that she "would wear a sauna suit twice a day, run on the treadmill, completely cut out all sugar and all carbs, and just eat the cleanest veggies and protein. I didn't starve myself, but I was so strict."

Experts are weighing in saying that her diet shouldn't be glamorized and that it could even be harmful. Brenna O'Malley, a non-diet dietician and founder of The Wellful, said "Kardashian boasting about her extreme restriction and exercise regimen to lose 16 pounds in three weeks, only to later share on Instagram stories how excited she is to eat pizza and donuts after the red carpet, is textbook disordered eating, diet culture, and such a dangerous message to promote to a massive, impressionable audience."

Dietician Marissa Meshulam warned about the danger this may pose- "Many young girls will read this and try to do the same exact thing. Kardashian is an idol to many and there are so many people who would do anything she said in hopes to look more like her. The issue is most of us cannot survive off just protein and veggies. Restrictive Diest tend to backfire and can actually create disordered eating patterns and obsession."

Some fans, however; are coming to Kardashian's defense. According to pop culture influencer @pattypopculture, lose weight loss plan was neither problematic or toxic because "Kim;s an entertainer. It's like preparing for a movie roll. This is her job literally to serve looks that millions of people want to see at The Met Gala and give a pop culture moment." Other Kardashian fans in the comments agreed. One user said "she did what she had to do. actors slim down/bulk in crazy ways ALL the time. for her this was a role and it was a job. she slayed." Another said "If an actor did this for a role it would be a lot more normalized than this."
