Kate Beckinsale Hospitalized Due To Ruptured Ovarian Cyst

Kate Beckinsale has been hospitalized.

The Underworld actress is currently receiving medical care after suffering a ruptured ovarian cyst early Sunday morning (January 27).

“Turns out a ruptured ovarian cyst really hurts and morphine makes me cry,” the 45-year-old star said in an update posted to Instagram following the health scare. “So thankful to everyone who looked after me #wobbly.”

As defined by Mayo Clinic, ovarian cysts are “fluid-filled sacs or pockets in an ovary or on its surface” and are typically the same size and shape of an almond. Potential side effects can include nausea, vomiting, dizziness, as well as serious pelvic or abdominal pain. Additionally, John Hopkins Medicine reports these cysts can break open, or “rupture,” and may lead to pain in the lower belly as well as bleeding.

While the British star has received a fair amount of love from her celebrity gal pals like Isla Fisher and Natalie Imbruglia, the latter of which wrote, “Oh no … wishing you a speedy recovery,”  Beckinsale was made to put a troll in their place for shaming her for snapping a selfie from her hospital bed.

"It's actually not a selfie," she clapped back, adding, "My mum took it. In fact I would not have posted it if we had not noticed someone in a car taking a photo of me leaving the hospital in a wheelchair."

"I have Instagram largely to have my own honest narrative and not have to always be ambushed by stories that come out that are invented, I'd prefer to say what happened than endure speculation and so I chose to share. I agree, it's not a normal impulse. But it's not normal to be photographed in vulnerable situations by people you don’t know either.  (If you were interested in knowing the provenance of this, which, you probably are not.)"

We're wishing Kate a speedy recovery!
