Katherine Heigl is a stage name of sorts for the actress.
During a recent appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, the star of Neftlix's new series, Firefly Lane, 42, admitted that she actually goes by the name "Katie" outside of the professional space. "No one calls me Katherine. It sounds much more sophisticated right?" Heigl told Barrymore, 45, during the interview. “Like an adult named Katherine."
"It helps me separate my work from me if that makes sense," she explained, adding, "I just had to embrace it."
Barrymore brought up another actress to compare Heigl's situation to, referencing Anne Hathaway's preference to be called Annie. "I think Katherine is so regal… and then Katie is like super cute and smiley,” Barrymore replied, before asking if she feels as if she has two separate women running inside of her. "I do. I do feel that way. I feel like I can present as Katherine when I need to but most of the time I am just Katie," she replied.
Meanwhile, in her household, Heigl said that she appears less Katie or Katherine and "more as a drill sergeant" to her three children that she shares with husband Josh Kelley. "I have ultimate control over the devices and I feel like I can safely do this now," she admitted. "They can be safe on there and I can be sure they are safe. So they have access to like books."
