Chris Evans is sharing how he took steps to ensure his proposal to wife Alba Baptista was extra special.
Speaking to The Knot at the New York City premiere of his new film Materialists on Saturday (June 7), Evans, 43, made a rare comment about his romance with the 27-year-old actress, specifically sharing sweet details about his proposal, per People. When it came time to pop the question, the Captain America star knew he was going to propose in Portuguese so he practiced endlessly because he wanted to make sure everything was perfect.
"Maybe I shouldn't even be saying this. I proposed to my now-wife in Portuguese — she's Portuguese," he said. "So I learned how to say, 'Will you marry me?' in Portuguese. And I had practiced all week."
In fact, he was practicing so much that he nearly gave the entire surprise away while going about their everyday life.
"I had practiced it so much that, while her and I, I'd be making breakfast and you almost just start saying it out loud and you're like, 'Oh God,'" he said. "That's not just a song that's stuck in my head, it's gonna let the cat out of the bag."
Even with all the practice, however, Evans said that he was "really nervous" when the big moment came and he even thinks he "screwed it up." Despite this, they had their happily ever after moment when they tied the knot in September 2023 in a ceremony at a private estate in Massachusetts.
