Brad Pitt is opening about his decision to attend Alcoholics Anonymous after realizing he "needed to wake the f--- up."

During an appearance on the June 23 episode of Dax Shepard's Armchair Expert podcast, the F1 actor got candid about the experience, calling AA an "amazing thing" while chatting with Shepard about getting to know each other in a meeting, per People. Pitt previously shared that he began attending AA meetings following his 2016 divorce from ex-wife Angelina Jolie.

"I just thought it was just incredible men sharing their experiences, their foibles, their missteps, their wants, their aches, and a lot of humor with it," he said. "I thought it was a really special experience."

Pitt noted that he started his journey with AA during a "difficult" period of his life.

"I was pretty much on my knees, and I was really open," he said. "I was trying anything and everything. Anything anyone threw at me. It was a difficult time. I needed rebooting. I needed to wake the f--- up in some areas. And it just meant a lot to me."

While he was "shy" in his first experience with the group, he eventually learned to "look forward to" the meetings, calling himself a "stubborn f---" hoping to not repeat the past.

"When I've stepped in s---, I'm pretty good at taking responsibility for it and owning up to it," he said. "And now it's a quest to, you know, 'What do I do with this? How can I right this?' And make sure it doesn't happen again."

Pitt recently opened up about learning from the "mistakes" of his past while looking ahead to what the future holds. The Ocean's Eleven star and Jolie finalized their divorce in December 2024, eight years after they ended their relationship. He broke his silence on the legal move in May, explaining that it wasn't "the major of a thing" and was instead a process that was finally "coming to fruition." They share six children: Maddox, 23, Pax, 21, Zahara, 20, Shiloh, 18, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 16.
