Ice Spice Clarifies Why She Didn't Sign With Nicki Minaj's Label

Ice Spice is opening up about what happened between her and Nicki Minaj after the Queen rapper tried to sign her.

On Tuesday, September 16, Keke Palmer released the latest episode of her podcast Baby, This is Keke Palmer featuring the "GYATT" rapper. During their conversation, Ice Spice spoke about working with Minaj on their hit collaborations. After discussing their creative process, Palmer asked her about the rumor that Minaj tried to sign Ice Spice to her Heavy On It record label. The Bronx native said she couldn't commit to Minaj's imprint since she was already signed to two other labels.

“I tried to really let our lawyers handle everything and our managers, but I was already signed when she was trying to sign me," Ice Spice said. "So I think that's where the hiccups were, because there was really no room anymore at that point to make a new deal. I'm signed to two labels, so that was already like a thing.”

Ice Spice first teamed up with Nicki Minaj on the "Princess Diana" Remix in 2023. The duo reunited a few months later on "Barbie World" featuring Aqua from the Barbie soundtrack. The RIOTUSA-produced track earned Ice Spice her first Grammy nominations for Best Song Written For Visual Media and Best Rap Song. Since then, Ice Spice and Nicki Minaj's partnership took a turn after she allegedly called Minaj "ungrateful" in leaked texts from the young artist's former friend. Despite the drama, Ice Spice said she still loves Minaj.

“It’s all love like always," she added. "I still look up to her. She’s mother.”
