Lola Young is opening up about her return to the spotlight months after taking a break following a scary onstage mishap.
Young was one of many performers at the 2026 Grammy Awards on Sunday (February 1), sitting behind a piano to sing her hit "Messy" in a moment that marked her first televised performance since collapsing at a music festival in September 2025 and taking a break. She later took home her first Grammy for Best Pop Solo Performance for the song, and reflected on her return while speaking in the press room after her win, People reports.
"You've got to protect your mental health in this industry. This is a very difficult industry to be in," she said. "I took the time out to get better because there's a lot of things going on right now in my head, in my personal life."

The British musician, 25, explained her decision to take some time away from performing for the last few months and how she had to "be kind to myself [and] give myself space."
"But now I am back. I feel better," she said. "I will do as much that I can to be good for my fans, and to be good for the people that love me. Thank you for all of my fans and everyone that supports me and everyone who understands me. It's a very beautiful moment."
Young collapsed on stage during her set at All Things Go in September and later shared that she was "going away for a while" and canceling "everything for the foreseeable future."
"I love this job and I never take my commitments and audience for granted, so I'm sorry to those who will be disappointed by this," she said in an Instagram post at the time. "I hope you'll all give me another chance in the future. Thank you to all those who listen and care."
