Miley Cyrus is honoring her past double life to celebrate 20 years of Hannah Montana. It's been nearly two decades since Hannah Montana first aired on Disney Channel, and the woman behind the wig wants to mark the occasion with a new anniversary special.
On Tuesday (February 17), Disney+ announced the forthcoming Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special celebrating "the iconic series that defined a generation," set to air March 24 on the exact date it first debuted, according to a press release. Hosted by Alex Cooper, the special will feature never-before-seen footage and an exclusive interview with Cyrus, who will give fans a look behind the curtain and even revisit some of the most memorable moments from the series.
The Something Beautiful singer, 33, explained why she wants to honor a role that not only had a major impact on her life but countless fans around the world.
"Hannah Montana will always be a part of who I am. What started as a TV show became a shared experience that shaped my life and the lives of so many fans, and I'll always be thankful for that connection," Cyrus said. "The fact that it still means so much to people all these years later is something I'm very proud of. This 'Hannahversary' is my way of celebrating and thanking the fans who've stood by me for 20 years."
Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television, also emphasized the lasting impact of the beloved series, which ran four seasons and spawned 2009's Hannah Montana: The Movie as well as hits like "Nobody's Perfect," "The Best of Both Worlds" and "If We Were a Movie," to name a few.
"Hannah Montana opened the door for so many fans to dream big, sing loud, and embrace every side of themselves, which is why its legacy continues to shine across generations," said Davis. "Partnering with Miley on this special is a dream, and we want it to be a love letter to the fans, who remain as passionate today as they were when the series debuted almost 20 years ago."
Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special, produced by HopeTown Entertainment and Unwell Productions and executive produced by Cyrus, Tish Cyrus-Purcell, Alex Cooper and Matt Kaplan, arrives to Disney+ on March 24.
