Eric Dane's family are leaning on their community for support in the wake of his death.
Days after Dane passed away at 53 following a battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), Rebecca Gayheart broke her silence on her estranged husband's death, per E! News. Taking to her Instagram Stories on Sunday (February), the Urban Legend actress reflected on the loving messages and support fans and friends of the Grey's Anatomy star have sent their way alongside a snap of framed photos of their family.
"I am so blown away by the outpouring of love and support from our community. There aren't words to express our gratitude. You are truly holding us up during this difficult time."
Dane and Gayheart tied the knot in 2004 and welcomed two daughters, Billie, 15, and Georgia, 14, before separating in 2018 when she filed for divorce. However, she requested to dismiss the petition in March 2025 and remained married to Dane until the time of his death on February 19, People reports.
In an interview with Netflix for the Famous Last Words series, which was released after his passing, the Euphoria actor shared that despite the ups and downs of their relationship, he and Gayheart "love each other deeply."
"I just think we don't want to live with each other. But there's a lot of love there," he said, adding, "I will never, by the time anybody sees this, have fallen in love with another woman as deeply as I fell in love with Rebecca."
Dane's family confirmed in statement on February 19 that he had passed away "following a courageous battle with ALS," according to People.
"He spent his final days surrounded by dear friends, his devoted wife, and his two beautiful daughters, Billie and Georgia, who were the center of his world," the statement read. "Throughout his journey with ALS, Eric became a passionate advocate for awareness and research, determined to make a difference for others facing the same fight. He will be deeply missed, and lovingly remembered always. Eric adored his fans and is forever grateful for the outpouring of love and support he's received. The family has asked for privacy as they navigate this impossible time."
