Jennifer Lopez is looking back a difficult time in her life and how she was able to overcome her self-doubt to get to the other side.

The "On the Floor" singer got candid about the "really tough time" she had following her split from ex-husband Marc Anthony while speaking to the crowd at her Up All Night Las Vegas residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace on Friday (March 6), per People. Lopez and Anthony, who share 18-year-old twins Max and Emme, were married for seven years before separating in 2011.

"I was really about to give up on it all," she said. "I mean, I was a single mom with two 3-year-old twins."

Lopez explained how she eventually got a much-needed push to keep going from late author Louise Hay, one of her mentors.

"She said to me, 'Jennifer, you're a dancer, right?'" she recalled. "I said, 'Yes, I am.' And she said, 'When you're learning a dance and you get the steps wrong, what do you do?' I said, 'I just keep going until I get the steps right.' And she said, 'That's right Jennifer. Always keep dancing.'"

As she spoke to the audience, the Kiss of the Spider Woman star added that she hopes the personal story can serve as an inspiration for other experiencing a rough patch in their life.

"And I wish the same for each and every one of you, that no matter what life throws at you, that you dance and you dance and you dance," she said. "Again and again and again."

During a roundtable discussion with other Hollywood actresses in December, Lopez opened up about facing "a lot of negativity" in her career and managing both positive and negative attention from the public.
