Shakira is "excited" and "humbled" about her latest career achievement.

In an interview with the Associated Press on Wednesday (March 11), the "Hips Don't Lie" singer reacted to being nominated last month for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for the very first time, admitting that the entire experience feels "surreal," per People.

"I feel really humbled and excited at the same time," she said. "It's incredible to be nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and a little bit surreal as well."

She added, "I don't know what's going on but this year, like, all my wishes are coming true and I think this nomination is one of those things that you probably fantasize about sometime in your career but try not to get too fixated on it."

Shakira explained that she "started out as a rock artist" and has "experimented with different genres in my career," noting that the genre is "an intricate part of my artistic persona" so being nominated is "a huge deal for me and my fans who followed my rock career."

"And everything that I listen to is rock music," she said. "So, to be nominated, for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, knowing that there are so many incredible icons of rock music that I adore, that inspired me, like The Rolling Stones... to me, it is just a privilege and really an amazing moment in my career."

Shakira is one of several artists who could be inducted into the Roll Hall this year, with iconic artists and groups like P!NK, Melissa Etheridge, Phil Collins, Lauryn Hill, Wu-Tang Clan, Jeff Buckley and more also receiving their first nominations for the class of 2026. The inductees will be revealed in April.
