EJAE had a golden night at the Academy Awards.
"Golden," the mega-hit from the Netflix movie KPop Demon Hunters that skyrocketed to the top of of the charts, won the Oscar for Best Original Song at the 98th Academy Awards on Sunday (March 15), becoming the first K-pop song to ever win an Oscar, per Deadline.
After legendary musician Lionel Richie called out the winner, singer and songwriter EJAE got emotional as she made her way up to the stage, delivering her acceptance speech through tears alongside the songwriting team.
"Growing up, people made fun of me for like K-pop, but now everyone is singing our song and all the Korean lyrics," she said. "I'm so proud. I realize the song, this award is not about success. It's about resilience."
EJAE, Rei Ami and Audrey Nuna also performed a shortened version of the tune just prior to the win. Other songs nominated in the category include "Dear Me" from Diane Warren: Relentless, "I Lied to You" from Sinners, "Sweet Dreams of Joy" by Viva Verdi! and "Train Dreams" from Train Dreams.
The Best Original Song win marked KPop Demon Hunters' second of the night, taking home the Oscar for Best Animated Feature Film earlier in the show and sweeping both of the film's nominations.
