Josh Duhamel struggled with his "ego" while married to Fergie.
During a March 25 appearance on The Megyn Kelly Show, the Transformers actor, 53, shared rare insight into his marriage to the former Black Eyed Peas member, 50, and how her fame at the time was next level, per E! News. The former couple were married for eight years before they separated in 2017, divorcing two years later.
"It was a huge shift," he said. "She was a massive star at the time."
Duhamel said that while the "Fergalicious" singer's fame may have made their relationship more difficult, he noted that the problems were likely of his own making, admitting, "It's probably my own ego more than anything."
"I don't think it bothered her as much as it probably did me," he said, adding, "It was suddenly, you're in that shadow a lot of the times."
Despite their eventual split, the pair have remained close and have a "great relationship," especially as they raise their 12-year-old son Axl. The Safe Haven star is also a dad to son Shepherd, 2, with wife Audra Mari, and the couple are currently expecting their second child together.
"We parent our son Axl," he said. "She's a great mom. I'm extremely happily married now to my wife Audra. We have a beautiful son and a little girl on the way. And they have a great relationship which is what I really care about."
Duhamel's remarks come weeks after he made a rare comment on his split from the "Glamorous" musician, explaining the reason they went their separate ways while sharing that he has "no regrets" about their relationship.
