The woman who was arrested for allegedly shooting at Rihanna's home has pleaded not guilty to her charges.
According to a report the Associated Press published on Wednesday, March 25, Ivanna Lisette Ortiz appeared in Los Angeles Superior Court and declared she's not guilty of over a dozen other felony counts, including attempted murder. During the hearing, the 35-year-old Orlando native stood behind a glass in an area for other defendants and only spoke once to waive her right to a speedy preliminary hearing. Judge Theresa McGonigle also denied a motion from Ortiz's public defender, Deputy Public Defender Derek Dillman, to reduce her bond from $1,875,000 to $70,000.
The Los Angeles Police Department filed 14 criminal charges against Ortiz, including one count of attempted murder, 10 felony counts of assault with a semi-automatic firearm, three felony counts of shooting into an inhabited dwelling, and one count of shooting at a motor vehicle. She could get life in prison if she's convicted of all charges.
Ortiz is accused of driving off after using an AR-15-style weapon to fire 10 shots at the singer's property from her white Tesla. Rihanna and A$AP Rocky were inside an Airstream trailer next to the singer's garage when the shots were fired. They were not injured, but they immediately ran inside Rihanna's home to check on her mother and staff. Police tracked Ortiz to a nearby shopping center parking lot, where they arrested her. Police say she wouldn't answer any questions about the incident, but did manage to speak once while in custody.
“Can I say one sentence?” she said. “I would like to say that I wasn’t attempting murder. But that’s all I wanted to say.”
Investigators have yet to reveal a motive behind the shooting. However, District Attorney Nathan Hochman said investigators are still looking into Ortiz's activity on social media in the days leading up to the incident.
