More than 5,000 power strips sold on Amazon have been recalled over the risk of a fire caused by the item being overloaded, the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission announced last week.

Middle Way Electronics' CCCEI Power Strips with 6-foot, 10-foot and 15-foot power cords were included in the recall. The power strips are reported to have a black metal enclosure with six black plastic receptacles and on/off switches for each receptacle.

"The power strips do not contain supplementary overcurrent protection, which creates a risk of fire if the power strips are overloaded. The resulting fire can cause serious injury or death from smoke inhalation and burns," the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission wrote in its recall last week.

The back of the power strip includes a white label stating: “Relocatable Power Taps. Caution keep children away. To reduce the risk of electric shock, use only indoors, risk of electrical shock. Do not plug into another relocatable power taps or an extension cord. Use only in dry location. Made in China.”

Middle Way Electronics confirmed that it received two reports of the recalled power strips sparking and melting, though no fires or injuries had been reported at the time of publication. The power strips were sold on Amazon between April 2024 and January 2026 in a price range between $23 and $30.

Consumers are advised to stop using the CCCEI power strips immediately and contact Middle Way Electronics for a full refund.
