Britney Spears has voluntarily checked herself into rehab, following her DUI arrest back in March.

A rep confirmed to PEOPLE on Sunday (April 12) that the pop icon, 44, recently entered a treatment center on her own volition.

The "Toxic" singer was pulled over and arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol by the California Highway Patrol on March 4, in Ventura, Calif. She was released the next day.

The incident remains under investigation, and the "Baby One More Time" songstress is scheduled to appear in court on May 4.

"She knows strategically this will look good in front of the judge, that she's taking it seriously," a source told TMZ on Sunday.

Following the arrest, friend and manager of the Crossroads actress, Cade Hudson, issued a statement, promising the musician would course correct.

"This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable," the statement read, per Page Six. "Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law, and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney's life. Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time."
