Laufey brought together a team of stars for her latest project.
On Monday (April 13), the Icelandic-Chinese singer-songwriter shared the vibrant music video for her song "Madwoman," off A Matter of Time: The Final Hour, the new deluxe version of her Grammy-winning 2025 album A Matter of Time. that released April 10. The visual includes superstar appearances from Olympic gold medalist Alysa Liu, The Summer I Turned Pretty star Lola Tung, KATSEYE's Megan Skiendiel and Heated Rivalry star Hudson Williams.
The video, full of retro fashion with a '70s-inspired intro, opens with a pool party gone wrong, Laufey's friends gathered around while she and Williams have a lovers quarrel that ends with her slapping him with a fish into the water. After capturing everyone's attention, Williams, now shirtless in swim trunks, shows off for the butlers while Laufey has a gossip session with the girls.
However, Laufey proves to be a madwoman caught in a daydream fantasy where everything isn't what it seems. Williams' character proposes to a conflicted Laufey, who ultimately flees the house. When her attempts to leave are unexpectedly thwarted, she finds herself welcomed back by her friends with open arms and empty eyes where Williams is waiting inside.
According to Billboard, Laufey intentionally made the decision to feature Asian and Asian American stars in the video for greater representation.
"Growing up, I felt a general lack of representation for people who looked like me in music and media. With the 'Madwoman' video, I wanted to be that representation," she said in a press statement. "The result is what honestly feels like my absolute dream video and exactly what younger Laufey would have loved to see."
