Fame can lead to many things — power, wealth, influence — but the dark side of worldwide notoriety may also lead to unintended consequences that put one's life in danger.
On the April 12 episode of the Disgraceland podcast, host Jake Brennan detailed the ordeals Taylor Swift has faced throughout her career from the "list of stalkers longer than her stadium tour set lists" that issued so intense and persistent that her team even used facial recognition technology at her concerts to ensure her known stalkers and "lunatics" threatening her life couldn't get close to her.
As Brennan shared tale after "terrifying" tale of men driving 900 miles to deliver disturbing notes wishing Swift harm or repeatedly breaking into her home, he recalled an interview where she once said she would choose playing for thousands of fans over walking alone down a street unnoticed "without hesitation"; however, as he explained, "nobody had warned her about what happens when the fame follows you home at night with love letters and a lock pick."
"It's a living true crime nightmare what Taylor Swift has had to endure in the face of her stalkers. It's downright terrifying," Brennan said. "Some might say that's the price one has to pay for that sort of fame, but we're all human and having to live with the constant threat of your home being invaded, abduction, or worse, that is not a fate that I would wish on anyone, not even my worst enemy never mind a pop star."
