Fans are still gathering at Drake's ice installation in downtown Toronto despite the city's attempts to destroy it.
On Wednesday, April 22, firefighters in Toronto began melting down the massive ice structure by dousing it with boiling-hot water. The process began a day after a streamer climbed to the top of the installation and dug until he found a blue bag containing a book filled with art that revealed the release date for ICEMAN. Fans continued to congregate at the structure after the album's release date was announced, which sparked safety concerns from citizens living nearby.
"The fire chief made the decision last night and I support his decision," Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow said during a press conference. "Drake is a big supporter of our city and there's so much excitement across our city towards this new Drake album, ICEMAN. I'm excited too! It's going to be a great summer."
Although they tried to melt the entire thing, the structure's remains still attracted fans to the site. In videos posted to social media, you can see people climbing on the pile of ice blocks and recording with their phones. In one video, an artist attempts to complete a Drake-inspired painting while seated on the ice. In a video shot before the release date was announced, one man was filmed getting a haircut while on top of the structure.
Drake's ICEMAN rollout went from 0-100 this week after the ice sculpture was constructed. Fans spent about two days trying to melt it down, but streamer Kishka managed to find the coveted blue bag with the release date inside. He took the bag to Drake's mansion in Toronto and opened it on the rapper's front lawn. The book revealed Drake's ninth studio album will drop on May 15. It also showed some concept art that's related to the project.
In the days since Drake's ice sculpture was built, multiple brands, from Coors Light to the NFL, have put their own spin on the situation. See what they came up with and check out some scenes from the aftermath of Drake's ice installation below.
