Taylor Swift is sharing her thoughts on the "detective work" some fans put into dissecting her music.

In a new profile interview for The New York Times' 30 Greatest Living American Songwriters, the Life of a Showgirl musician explained how she really feels about when some of her most extra-dedicated fans analyze her lyrics to such an "extreme" degree in order to determine exactly who she is singing about, per People. Swift has had several high-profile romances, including with Harry Styles, Joe Alwyn, Jake Gyllenhaal and fiancé Travis Kelce.

"There's corners of my fanbase who are gonna take things to a really extreme place," she said. "There's nothing I can do about that. There's people who are gonna try to, like, do detective work, figure out the details — who is that about, what is this..."

However, there comes a point when the investigating crosses a line into disregarding the work the "Fate of Ophelia" singer put into her craft.

"When it gets a little bit weird for me is when people act like it's like a paternity test," she said. "Like, 'This song's about that person.' Because I'm like, 'That dude didn't write the song, I did.' But that's part of it."

Despite this, Swift knows how important it is for her to maintain her own perception of her music when it's finally released to the public.

"You have to hold tight to your perception of your art and your relationship with it, and then you just kind of have to [blows air out] 'There it goes. Hope you like it! If you don't now, hope you do in like five years,'" she said. "'And if you never do, then I was doing it for me anyway.'"
