Barry Keoghan is sharing his truth, more than a year after splitting from Sabrina Carpenter.
During an appearance on the April 28 episode of the Friends Keep Secrets podcast, the Saltburn star opened up to hosts Benny Blanco, Lil Dicky and Kristin Batalucco about the cheating rumors that plagued the end of his relationship with the "Espresso" singer. The pair dated for around a year before splitting in December 2024 around the time rumors circulated that he had been cheated on Carpenter with influencer Breckie Hill, per People. Hill has since slammed the rumor.
Keoghan hit back at the "not true" claims while explaining that the rampant speculation led to him taking a step back from socializing and deactivating social media after the "absolutely disgusting" and "vile" comments he received attacking his character.
"I have been avoiding stuff. I came off Instagram and social profiles. I've stopped going to events. I've stopped just socializing," he said. "It's because there was a narrative out there that was never really even spoken on — a narrative that's not true, and I never confirmed or said anything about it. And, you know, I just disappeared."
The Banshees of Inisherin actor added that the public nature of his romance with Carpenter meant the comments and claims of infidelity were "amplified." However, he didn't comment at the time because he didn't want to speak for anyone else, and he would hope it's the same for his ex.
"It's a hard one, because I never want to speak on behalf of other people, and I also never want to mention other people or involve them," he said. "And even if it is those people that I was in a relationship with, it's not my place or it's not their place to come forward and speak on my behalf. It's unfair to them."
He added, "I'm not asking people to become my fan or like me... I'm asking for people to stop assuming, and also stop jumping on this narrative and attacking me, and dragging me down in any way you can."
