Noah Kahan is opening up about working with one of his musical heroes.

In a new cover story for Rolling Stone published Tuesday (May 5), the "Stick Season" musician shared what it was like collaborating with Bon Iver frontman Justin Vernon on Kahan's new album The Great Divide. Vernon provided backing vocals and banjo on Kahan's song "Downfall" as well as electric guitar and more on other tracks and would send in his contributions through email.

"He's such a mythical figure in my head that it's cool to have him just float into my songs," he said. "It's like a mysterious wood person will lay down guitar and I won't see it, but it'll come through email and I'll be like, 'Oh, my God, this is him.'"

Kahan has been busy over the last few months, from promoting and then releasing his new album on April 24 to opening up more about his life in candid podcast interviews and his Netflix documentary Out of Body. The months ahead are only going to keep him even more occupied as he hits the road for his The Great Divide stadium tour this summer, kicking off in July and traveling around the U.S. and select cities in Canada before wrapping up and the end of August.

"I'm hitting the road this summer. Can't wait to bring The Great Divide Tour to stadiums across North America," he said on Instagram in February, adding, "I can't wait to see all your beautiful faces."
