Brat is over, and now it's time to rock.
Charli XCX is on to the next chapter, dropping her new brand new single "Rock Music" on Friday (May 8). While the track still captures the pop essence of her recent projects, the added guitars bring the rock quality that she had previously teased in the lead up to releasing the song.
"We're on to the next, I think the dance floor is dead, so now we're making rock music," she sings.
The Brat singer also shared an accompanying music video for the new track, directed by Aidan Zamiri, who took the helm for her recent mockumentary The Moment, and featuring her husband and The 1975 drummer George Daniel.
Charli gave hints about her "rock reinvention" in a cover story for British Vogue last month, admitting that "there's gonna be people who are bothered by it" who were all-in on Brat Summer but that she thinks it is "fun to flip the form."
"If I'd made another album that felt more dance-leaning, it would have felt really hard, really sad," she said. She added of the rock genre, "but what's interesting for me is to bend the possibilities of what my perspective on that could be."
