Cody Simpson is opening up about the obstacles he's facing amid a "serious" health concern.
The "Baby Blue" singer, 29, revealed in an Instagram post on Monday (May 11) that he has been dealing with setbacks while making his forthcoming album after he "discovered a serious hemorrhage on one of my vocal cords" a little over a month ago that has left him on vocal rest and unable to sing for a while.
"It occurred due to my overzealousness in the studio singing through a sinus infection I didn't know I had," he said. "Assumed it was just fatigue and kept showing up to the studio until one day I could no longer sing."
Simpson explained that he has been "on and off vocal rest for weeks" and has had to cancel multiple performances, with even more rest prescribed to hopefully avoid surgical treatment, saying, "I've just been prescribed another 2 weeks of silence in hopes of avoiding surgery which demands a much longer recovery process."
While the process has impacted his ability to complete his album and "polish up the next singles," Simpson has found a way to keep the creativity flowing.
"I'm back in the studio now writing strictly as a lyricist on mute with my collaborators, and hearing/writing my vocal melodies on guitar (which I will eventually replace with my voice when I'm able to)," he said. "Where there's a will, there's a way. [...] I've been extremely up and down but am now reframing this as a realignment for the long-term good."
