Rumer Willis is sharing an update on her relationship with dad Bruce Willis amid his dementia battle.

In a recent interview with The Inside Edit, the 37-year-old actress explained that her relationship with the Die Hard actor has changed since his diagnosis with frontotemporal dementia (FTD) in an unexpected way but that she still feels grateful she can still see him, per Page Six.

"Even though it's different now, I'm so grateful," she said. "There's a sweetness. He's always been this kind of macho dude and there's like a — fragile is not the right word but — just a tenderness that maybe being Bruce Willis might not have allowed him in a certain way."

Another surprise Rumer has learned since her dad's 2023 diagnosis is learning how "prevalent" it is from encounters with others who have experienced a similar situation within their own families.

"It's wild to me," she said. "So many people come up to me now and they say, 'My uncle had FTD. My dad had this."

Earlier this year, the Fifth Element actor's wife Emma Heming Willis shared that he "doesn't know" he has dementia but is "still very much present in his body" as she shared how their family has "progressed along with him." Bruce shares daughters Rumer, Scout, 34, and Tallulah, 32, with ex-wife Demi Moore, and daughters Mabel, 14, and Evelyn, 12, with Emma.

"He has a way of connecting with me, our children that might not be the same as you would connect with your loved one, but it's still very beautiful," she said. "It's still very meaningful. It's just — it's just different. You just learn to adapt."
