Paul Rudd is glad his friend Steve Carell ignored his career advice.
The Ant-Man actor served as the first guest on the Jonas Brothers' new Hey Jonas! podcast, the Thursday (May 21) appearance also doubling as a reunion of sorts with his Power Ballad costar Nick Jonas. The pair have been on a press tour for the upcoming musical comedy, which hits theaters May 29, and took time to chat with the "Jealous" singer's brothers Kevin Jonas and Joe Jonas.
During their conversation, Rudd was asked about Carell's recent comments that his Anchorman costar warned him not to audition for The Office, on which he starred as Michael Scott for seven seasons. Now, after watching the workplace mockumentary become one of the most beloved TV shows of the last 20 years, Rudd is happy his advice was ignored.
Rudd recalled Carell telling him about producers being interested in him for an American version of The Office, while a prior British version starring Ricky Gervais had been a success, and he advised Carell to steer clear of the project because it was already "such a great show."
"Clearly, I was the idiot in that scenario because he knew, obviously, a lot more than I did. It was an interesting lesson," he said. "One, who am I to tell anybody what they should or shouldn't do — it's a terrible decision — but most of all, thank God he didn't listen to me, right? He's a genius and the show is amazing."
Hey Jonas!, a brand new podcast partnership between the iHeartPodcasts, the JoBros and their production banner Powered by Jonas, launched May 19, giving fans the chance to listen to Kevin, Joe and Nick like never before as they have candid and playfully chaotic conversations with each other and even answer fan questions.
