Olivia Rodrigo Says Making An 'Ick List' Helps You Get Over An Ex

Sometimes all you need is a little dating advice from Olivia Rodrigo.

Ahead of the release of her new album, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, the pop superstar teamed up with iHeartRadio for "u+me=advice4evr," a one-of-a-kind live relationship advice show where she took fan calls on everything from age-gap relationships and getting over exes to forgotten anniversaries, making the first move and keeping long-term relationships alive. Along the way, she shared thoughtful advice, plenty of laughs and gave listeners an exclusive sneak peek at never-before-heard songs before the album officially drops later tonight.

When one caller asked Rodrigo how to get over a guy, the singer admitted she was still trying to answer that question herself before sharing one of her go-to tricks: making an "ick list."

"You know, some tips that my friends have given me, have you ever made an ick list?" she said, suggesting people write down everything that gives them the ick about the person they're trying to move on from. "Anytime you're like reminiscing, like, 'Oh my gosh, maybe I should text him, maybe I should call him. I miss him,' just consult ick list, and it'll put you back on the straight and narrow."

Another caller wanted to know how to stop romanticizing someone they know isn't right for them, prompting one of Rodrigo's most relatable admissions of the night.

"Romanticizing a guy that isn't right for you is one of the most fun things a girl can do," she joked. "I love doing that. It's kind of addicting."

Her advice? Fill your schedule with so much friendship, work and hobbies that "you don't even have time to think about that guy."

Rodrigo also shared her thoughts on whether sparks should fly immediately after one fan confessed she expected love to feel "like an Olivia Rodrigo bridge."

While the singer said she believes you're either attracted to someone or you're not, she also admitted that the instant "butterflies" feeling isn't necessarily the best sign.

"Sometimes I actually think that that's a recipe for something toxic," she said. "I've never met someone or I have that sort of instant, crazy connection with, and it doesn't go sour and weird."

Elsewhere, the singer revealed that one of her "most successful" flirting tactics has been sliding into someone's DMs with a cute or flirty reply to their Story, while joking that she also likes finding little excuses to touch someone's hand in person.

Throughout the special, Rodrigo balanced lighthearted moments with heartfelt advice, encouraging fans navigating situationships, long-distance relationships and the ups and downs of modern dating while giving them an exclusive first listen to several songs from you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love before its official release.

Olivia Rodrigo's new album, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, officially arrives on Friday, June 12, at 12 a.m. ET / 9 p.m. PT.
