New Anthem "Gotta Be Us" Calls Americans to Action

"Be The People" has released a new song, "Gotta Be Us (Be The People)," to inspire Americans to engage in community problem-solving. Produced by Grammy-nominated Jason Boyd (Poo Bear), the song features emerging artists like Momo Boyd, Trevor Jackson, Smino, Sadie Rose Van, Luke Borchelt, and the VCU Black Awakening Choir. This anthem is part of a 10-year initiative to connect community problem-solvers with millions of Americans ready to contribute.

The song, centered around the lyric "we're the proof," emphasizes the power of everyday people in making progress. Aloe Blacc, a member of the Be The People National Leadership Council, highlighted that significant work in America often happens quietly in local communities. "Gotta Be Us" aims to spotlight these contributions and encourage more people to participate.

“Some of the most important work happening in America never makes headlines,” said Aloe Blacc, Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter and member of the Be The People National Leadership Council. “It happens in neighborhoods, schools, community centers, houses of worship, and countless other places where people are helping others and solving problems. ‘Gotta Be Us’ shines a light on those everyday acts of contribution and reminds us that each of us has something valuable to give.”

Starting June 18, Be The People will launch the #BeThePeopleOpenCall, inviting Americans to creatively reinterpret the song through various forms of expression. Participants can enter a contest to win mentorship from industry leaders and record their version of the song in Los Angeles or New York City. More details are available at bethepeopleopencall.com.

The initiative, supported by leaders across various sectors, will continue to engage communities through events like Together Tuesday on June 23, a national day of community action led by Asha Curran of GivingTuesday. For more information, visit bethepeople.org.
