Gracie Abrams teamed up with her boyfriend Paul Mescal on her new album.

On the June 26 episode of the New York Times' Popcast podcast, the singer-songwriter, 26, reflected on collaborating with the Hamnet actor, 30, on her song "Imaginary Friend," co-writing the track from her upcoming album Daughter From Hell. Mescal is also fully credited on the song rather than a pen name, per People.

"I don't like the feeling of hiding," Abrams said, before clarifying that privacy is still important. "I also love privacy where it feels like the right thing."

As for the writing process, the "Hit the Wall" musician explained that their relationship dynamic allowed them to work well together creatively.

"That was so fun to write together. That wasn't some groundbreaking event for us," she said. "We have a very creative home with friends who are so good at what they do and everyone feels happy to share that with one another."

Abrams, who has been linked to Mescal since 2024, recently explained why she was "freaked out" that feeling stable and secure in her relationship would affect her songwriting, telling Vogue, "I was worried feeling secure and stable was threatening my drive to write music."

Daughter from Hell drops July 17.
