Millie Bobby Brown is learning how to connect with people her own age after spending much of her childhood on set.
The Stranger Things star, 22, appeared on the June 29 episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast where she was asked if being a child star caused her to miss any milestones or "life skill" she may have otherwise picked up growing up away from the spotlight, per Page Six.
"Well, I didn't go to public school, so maybe a bit of socialization," she said, adding, "Sometimes, when fans come up to me, they'll be like, 'Millie!' And I'll be like, 'Ahh!' And it's not because I've ... It's just I don't know how to react sometimes to people my own age. I have a harder time."
Instead, the Enola Holmes actress explained she "grew up with primarily men on crews" who were "over 40 years old" — quickly adding, "let's change that" — rather than socializing more with her peers.
"So I heard a lot of adult talk growing up, and didn't really talk about the things you're meant to talk about as a kid," she said. "You hear, 'Where's the grip? Let's grab a ladder,' you know, that's your whole conversation."
Brown noted that she could talk about the filming process "extensively" but said she "[lacks] a little bit" of the ability to talk with people her own age about average topics like their favorite bars.
However, she has managed to find her "complete opposite" counterpart in husband Jake Bongiovi, who she called a "social butterfly," and has been taking cues from him.
"When I met him, I really tried to lean in more to that," she said. "So I'm in my social era."
Brown and Bongiovi, 24, tied the knot in 2024 and announced in August 2025 that they had adopted a "sweet baby girl," sharing they were "beyond excited to embark on this beautiful next chapter of parenthood in both peace and privacy." In November, the Damsel actress explained the importance maintaining privacy for their daughter and why she has no plans to share details about her baby girl with the public.
