Former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez plans to plead guilty to charges related to a violent altercation with a truck driver in Indianapolis last year. The incident occurred in October 2025, when Sanchez, in town to call a Colts game for Fox Sports, was involved in a fight with truck driver Perry Tole. According to court records, Sanchez filed a motion for a guilty plea on Thursday (September 3), just days before his trial was set to begin.
Sanchez, who initially faced multiple charges including misdemeanor battery, unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle, and public intoxication, later faced a felony charge for battery resulting in serious bodily injury. The altercation reportedly began when Sanchez, allegedly intoxicated, confronted Tole in an alley behind a hotel. Tole claimed he acted in self-defense, using pepper spray and a knife, after Sanchez allegedly attacked him.
The case has seen multiple delays, with the trial rescheduled five times. Now, Sanchez's legal team is requesting a sentencing hearing for November. According to Yahoo Sports, Sanchez's attorneys are finalizing an agreement with the prosecutor’s office to resolve the case. Tole has also filed a civil lawsuit against Sanchez and Fox Sports, which parted ways with Sanchez following the incident.
USA Today reports that Tole's attorney, Matt Golitko, expressed optimism about reaching an amicable resolution in the civil matter. Meanwhile, Sanchez's legal advisor, Nick Sanchez Jr., described the plea as a "positive development" toward closing this chapter.
The fight, captured on security footage, showed Sanchez following Tole into an alley, leading to the confrontation. Sanchez was hospitalized with stab wounds but later released and booked into jail. The former quarterback initially pleaded not guilty but has since sought to resolve the criminal charges through a plea deal.
