Jhené Aiko is set to release her first album in six years this week.
On Tuesday, September 8, the revered R&B singer finally confirmed the release date for her forthcoming album, Westside Whimsy. Aiko shared the album cover, shot by Danny Williams a.k.a. "Topshelf Junior," and followed up with the official tracklist. The album holds 20 fresh tracks, including collaborations with Ab-Soul, Tyga, Larry June, OHMA, and Kendrick Lamar.
"6 years in the making 💙 Thank you for your patience 🙏🏼'Westside Whimsy' out THIS FRIDAY ✨" Aiko wrote in her Instagram post about the tracklist.

"I think that everything I do is rooted in where I'm from, what I grew up around, the people that I love, and the music I grew up listening to, which was a lot of '90s rap, and R&B, and soul and even just all the music in the '90s has really influenced me," Aiko told Complex about the album's influences.
Aiko has been promoting the album since she first revealed the title in her Instagram Stories back in January. She also teamed up with Erewhon Market earlier this year to drop a smoothie inspired by her upcoming album's name.
Westside Whimsy will arrive six years after Aiko dropped her Chilombo album. Aiko recorded the album in Hawaii after she broke up with her longtime boyfriend Big Sean. After the album dropped in 2020, Aiko received three Grammy nominations, including Album of the Year and Best Progressive R&B Album, and Best R&B Performance for "Lightning & Thunder."
